This rationale handbook is designed as an adjunct to the Ambulance Clinical Practice Guidelines. The primary aim is to provide Paramedics and student Paramedics with additional information and rationale to gain better understanding and knowledge of the guidelines. The manual focuses on a brief description of pathology, management aims and individual rationale for management undertaken within each guideline.
A broader understanding of the guidelines may allow paramedics to improve their clinical decision making, consult appropriately and understand the potential benefits of requesting ICP support and interventions they perform.
There are multiple variations in clinical practice across the various ambulance services within Australia and emergency departments; However the fundamental aspects remain very similar. This handbook is aimed at advancing knowledge as an accessory to the current Victorian guidelines and therefore does not support deviation from the current clinical practice guidelines.
